Personality: a plus in graphic design

In the age of influencers, being unique seems to have become a sought-after quality. We strive to be original and exceptional at every turn.

The Internet is full of hundreds of thousands of resources, designs and photos, all seeking to convey a message, but also an emotion or a feeling that goes beyond the screen.

As a graphic designer, you already know that the ability to create is unlimited; but, often, it is difficult to find a point of connection with your public, where you can develop an idea that works while still being one hundred percent yourself.

Here lies the importance of personality. And, although it may seem obvious, the influence of your own personality is what makes your work unique

That’s why, even if two artists work on the same idea or concept, they will never create identical designs, as each of them will leave a reflection of their thoughts, feelings or even their mood in their design.

In short, some of their being will be inherent in their work.

The personality of Picasso or Van Gogh in their paintings

The influence of personality on art is nothing new. The legacy of the greatest artists in history, besides their work, is a reflection of their personality, a glimpse of which can be seen in each of their pieces, helping us, at the same time, understand how they were created and the emotions they wanted to transmit to the public.

It is said of the world-famous Picasso that he had a brilliant yet complicated personality. His work has captivated people across the world, being a reflection of his eccentric nature, never seeking to please, rather unleash an unparalleled talent.

Van Gogh, one of the most famous and renowned painters in the world, was also a solitary child who, throughout his life, developed an extremely difficult character and a changing and unstable personality, which infused each and every one of his paintings.

So, if the greatest artistic idols of our time were able to succeed by expressing part of their personality in their artistic works, despite being somewhat dark, why can’t you?

The role of personality in graphic design

Just like any other artistic discipline, in graphic design the aim is to connect with the public and move spectators, something that comes much more naturally when the designer can add a personal touch to their work.

This is much more important than it may seem, as emotional connections are memorable for the public and, therefore, a plus in favor of your work being recognized and valued.

The way in which a designer approaches characters, objects or colors in their work reflects part of their personality, making the way in which they connect with spectators much more authentic and, in all likelihood, much more lasting, creating a long-term connection.

Your uniqueness and your personality will also help you stand out from the competition, with unique and original designs. Because, as we already mentioned, there is no better advice for a designer than to simply be yourself!

Finally, personalities are all different, there is no good or bad. So, just like Van Gogh and Picasso, explore within yourself and make the most of your talent to create stunning designs.

However your design may be, it will always reflect a part of you.
